Jessie Marino (b.1984) is
a cellist, composer, and performance artist from New York. Her recent
work explores the interplay of duality, conflict and balance between
humans through her preferred medium, experimental theater-music.
Jessie's work incorporates the reuse of sonic and physical materials,
and strong visual elements, including light, color and motion, with a
base of electronic, choreographed and improvised musical material. In
2008 she founded the sound centric performance art duo On Structure
(NYC), which has toured the West Coast, Southeastern United States and
has been performing in galleries and concert venues around New York
City. Jessie holds a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance from the
Manhattan School of Music. In 2006 she was awarded the Stamas Family
Scholarship from Lincoln Center and has recently received awards from
Meet the Composer, New York Foundation for the Arts, Northern Manhattan
Artists Alliances and the Ora Lerman Charitable Trust.
As a cellist, Jessie performs regularly with Ensemble Pamplemousse and
the Wet Ink Ensemble (NYC) and has worked with influential
composers such as Alvin Lucier, Pierre Boulez, Beat Furrer, and
Bernhard Lang. She has previously been a member of the SEM
Ensemble(NYC), Red Light New Music(NYC), Forum Zeitgenoessicher
Musik(Leipzig), KlangExectuiv (Berlin), and the Ostravska Banda (CZ).
Jessie currently resides in Brooklyn, NY where she collaborates
regularly with many of her favorite musicians from around the world and
is working towards her Masters degree in composition at Wesleyan
University.
